The STUDIO provides outstanding music, theatre, cinema, dance and workshop events for the community.
We work in partnership with local business, community groups, local primary schools, charities, local government and higher education providers.
As the STUDIO theatre is at the heart of a performing arts school, we have the resources to make a success of this.
We have a resident community choir, , which meets on a Wednesday during term time at 8 pm.
We run a performing arts club, for children aged 7 to 11 years, which meets every Monday evening during term time.
We also have a community cinema, which shows an eclectic mix of movies from Arthouse, Foreign, British, Old Classics and New, once a month.
This orchestra’s aim is for its members to really enjoy their playing. It will play
mostly light music such as film and television arrangements, as we want to
make it accessible to people of all ages and from all sections of the
community. Whether you are a school pupil, college student, teacher, parent,
grandparent, enthusiastic amateur or semi-professional, if you play an
orchestral instrument (including saxophone) we would love you to join us.
The orchestra will meet at The STUDIO@TPS once each half-term, on a
Saturday morning. The big launch is on 20 March 2010 and our first
performance is at the King’s Theatre, Southsea on 21 July 2010.
There is no entry audition to join the orchestra but, as a guide, you should
be roughly grade 5 standard or above. If you’re not quite sure whether this
is for you, our director, James Eaton (Head of Music at TPS), is always happy
to have an informal chat. He can be contacted via the STUDIO email.
